‘A Listening’ Phone Number

What is this initiative for?

Although lockdown is easing in different parts of the UK, many people are still shielding and most people still cannot meet with their priests in the normal way. 'A Listening Ear’ is a pastoral phone line being offered by the Community at Kinnoull which offers exactly that, a listening ear for those in need of spiritual support.

Who is this initiative for?

Through the phone number, we hope to provide pastoral support to anyone who considers St Mary’s to be their spiritual home, or who is from the wider community. Calling the number may be particularly helpful to anyone who:

  • feels the need to talk to a Catholic priest
  • is recently bereaved
  • has been directly or indirectly affected by the COVID19 outbreak
  • would like to hear an assurance of God’s love and mercy for them
  • is experiencing spiritual difficulty of any kind
  • would like prayer support

What is the number, and what will it cost?

The Listening Ear number is 07599 692 250. This is a normal UK mobile phone number. (Please check with your own phone provider to check your own call rates.)

How does it work?

When you call the Listening Ear number, you will be asked to leave a brief message. In your voice message, please include

  • your first name
  • a contact number on which we can call you back
  • a time of day when it would be convenient for us to do so

One of the Redemptorist priests living at St Mary’s will then call you back within 24 hours. All of the priests working in this ministry have current PVG certificates (Scottish equivalent of a DBS check), have completed safeguarding training with the Diocese of Dunkeld, and between them have extensive pastoral experience which they wish to share with anyone in spiritual need at this time.

When does A Listening Ear go live?

The phone number will go live on Tuesday 23rd June 2020. We propose the initiative continue until such time as people everywhere can visit their priest in the normal way.
